Sara Bawany

Sara Bawany is an award-winning published poet, clinical social worker, and creative writing teacher based in Austin, Texas. She is in her final year of her MFA in Creative Writing at Texas State University. She serves as the Managing Editor at Porter House Review and is a lead writing instructor at House of Amal. Garnering several thousand readers after beginning to share her work regularly online in 2016, Sara published her first poetry book in 2018, (w)holehearted: a collection of poetry and prose, which won Daybreak Press Publishing’s “Best Poetry Book” award. Her second book, Quarter Life Crisis, was published in October 2023. She recently curated and co-edited a community anthology with House of Amal titled, Threads of Palestine Anthology: Weaving Words of Witness. Sara is a two-time Pushcart Prize nominee and was a finalist in Button Poetry’s 2021 Annual Chapbook Contest. Her spoken word performances have been featured twice on TEDx as well as on ACLU TX, and her poems have been published in The Texas Observer, Seventh Wave Magazine, Infrarrealista Review, and more.
