Terry Dawson

Central Texas

Terry Dawson, a retired Presbyterian minister and former adjunct faculty at San Francisco Seminary, resides in Austin, Texas. There he performs with the multicultural poetry, jazz and live painting collective, Five Voizz Bush, and writes a guest column for the Austin American Statesman. His poetry, creative non-fiction and essays have appeared in national and international journals over the past half century. He is winner of Hot Poets' 2024 poetry prize and Wingless Dreamer's 2022 grand prize. He was runner-up for the 2019 Christina Surgeyevna Award, and a finalist in both the 2020 Julia Darling and the 1972 Chase Going Woodhouse poetry competitions. His first book, the after (Poets' Choice), came out in 2022. His second book, Pursuing the Ruin (Lamar University Literary Press), will come out in 2026.
